Wu Weishan exhibition

This time we went to an exhibition, its Wu Weishan cultural figures sculpture gallery of Nanjing museum. We saw many artworks in there, such as paintings and calligraphies; it’s all made by him. His artwork is contemporary, because he can also draw Chinese painting and Western painting. And many themes of his sculptures are western people. He ever made a sculpture of Netherlands’ queen.
These sculptures are wonderful, some of them are looks realistic, they looks vivid and truly.And also some of them are symbol, because they may a little exaggerated or unrealistic.

This artwork is called ‘sleeping child’, the artist Wu Weishan is also a famous calligrapher. There is a child, who was sleeping, and his eyes were closed, his head were tilt and carrying. His mouse looks opening and he also looks hard to breath. It not looks smooth, but it also very wonderful, because it looks like a real child.And it looks so small, it really exquisite. It’s made by soil.

This sculpture was completed on a visit to a friend’s house. The child had been crying all day, and now had fallen asleep.The child breathes hard, so the mouse is open. He was shocked about this, so he went back immediately. Then use soil to record this picture.

The artwork makes me feel very peaceful and harmonious. It also makes me think about the children’s smile, it’s very clean and fresh. This artwork makes reminds me of once when I was ill, and I was feeling very uncomfortable, my mother said I was just like a baby.

I think it looks like abstract art in our art classes. The ‘sleeping child’ is representing nature.

I like this artwork, because I think it’s very fine and I also think it’s imaginative. It’s also very interesting. Although the artist used the traditional style, he can also make it realistic, it’s surprising. I think people might think it’s very special and extraordinary, because this may be is not a common way to make sculpture.

Wu Wieshan is a painter in the traditional style. It basic feature are full of expression, dignified, fresh, and terse. It can concentrate and hint reality. He just uses soil to make it, so it’s not colorful. He is one of Nanjing University’s professors, fine arts academy and of cause he is also sculpture art institute.

His painting also very well, I saw them on the wall. Although he uses brush to draw them, but many of them are Western paintings. He can combine Chinese traditional culture and modern Western art.
I like this exhibition, because it let me known more about the artwork. So we can study Art out of classroom, it’s interesting. Our thinking is not only stay in the skills that we learned from the school. We can also learn any artworks out of the school, this type of study make us feel our studies are useful. I believe if you carefully enough, you will find the art in everywhere.
